A battle of proud gridiron schools met on the field on November 21, 1931, when the USC Trojans traveled to South Bend to face Notre Dame. Ever wonder how one of the best intersectional rivalries ever blossomed? Notre Dame jumped out to a two-TD lead early on, but Southern Cal battled back. Kicker Johnny Baker booted one over the bar and between the uprights from 33 yards out with one minute remaining to win the contest. USC snapped Notre Dame's 26-game undefeated streak, while Southern Cal claimed their first national championship. With great respect, Trojan Coach Howard Jones took the USC team to visit Knute Rockne's grave after the game. ESPN in 2019 ranked it as the 55th Greatest College Game ever.
